Welcome to the new Great Oakley Estates website
Posted on January 15, 2018
The Great Oakley Estate has launched a brand new website which provides an insight into the rich cultural and historical background of these beautiful grounds.
In the ownership of the de Capell Brooke family since 1575, Great Oakley Estate brings together beautiful parks, unique architecture and a fascinating history of agriculture and education. You can read more about the role that the estate has played in local education in an article in our news section.
This website will continue to expand over the coming months and years with more information but centres crucially on three sections:
The Estate – Here you will find a growing history of the estate, from the early days of Great Oakley village, to the formation of boundaries and the various manors who have been stewards of the land over the centuries. You will also find some information about the nature and wildlife that call the Great Oakley Estate home. It is here that you will also find properties available to let within the grounds, as well as an insight into the daily life of running a modern estate.
Education – Education has long been a crucial pillar of the Great Oakley Estate’s work within the local community and in this section of the website you can read about how in the mid-1980s Hugh de Capell Brooke – late father of current steward Alexander de Capell Brooke – began to explore the possibility of bringing a new school to Corby; and how this vision developed into what is now the Brooke Weston Trust, educating 7,000 students a year from the ages of 3 to 18 years.
Great Oakley – The Great Oakley Estate is set within the tranquil and friendly village of Great Oakley, which sits on the upper reaches of Harpers Brook, a tributary of the River Nene that runs throughout Northamptonshire. In this section you can read about some of the landmarks of the village, including Great Oakley Cricket Club which has close ties to the Estate and Great Oakley Village Hall, which the estate helped create.
We hope that you enjoy this website and all the stories, history and information it has to offer!
